Community Standards

Community Standards

These are the guidelines we use at every event to keep dialogue respectful.

We are creating this experience together, so it is our collective responsibility to uphold these standards throughout our time together.

  • Be mindful of how you show up in conversations. Make space for others to talk if you're usually a talker and take space to speak if you tend to be an observer.
  • Assume good intent as people are speaking. No one is perfect with words so allow grace when others fumble words or misspeak
  • Your attention is a gift. When others are speaking, please refrain from side conversations and scrolling.
  • If you wish to take pictures and share your experience through social media, you may do so but please make sure you are not interrupting the flow and have the consent of people around you.
  • Respect everyone. No personal attacks, name-calling, or intimidation.
  • Own your experiences and your thoughts, use" I statements". Rather than
    "they say", use "I think."
  • Don't interrupt. Listen to someone's full comment before responding. If you are worried about losing your thought, jot it down in the "parking lot" in your booklet.
  • This is a dialogue, rather than a debate. You can disagree with someone, but
"winning" an argument is not the goal.
  • You always have the right to pass. Please do not pressure people into engaging on any given topic.
  • We know everyone has obligations outside of the room, but your phone can be an unwanted distraction. If you must check notifications ask for a pause from your conversation partner. Then see if what has come through is more important than the topic at hand. If you must respond either by voice or lengthy text, excuse yourself from the table, then rejoin us when you are done.
